Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy A phones — the Galaxy A5, and the Galaxy A7 2018 — will most likely ship with a near edge-to-edge Infinity screen much like the company’s high-end Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ (and the Galaxy Note 8). A fresh report that cites a Galaxy A5 2018inside a case seemingly confirms that the upcoming Galaxy A5 (2018) will indeed ship with the Galaxy S8/Galaxy S8+’ USP Infinity display bringing near edge-to-edge screens to the masses. Since both the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A7 phones share the same design palate, we can expect the upcoming Galaxy A7 (2018) to offer much of the same deal.
The Galaxy A5 (2018) – as per the leaked images – will be available as many as four colours and see a major design shift in the positioning of the fingerprint scanner. While in the case of the Galaxy S8/Galaxy S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8 the fingerprint scanner lies next to the camera module, in the case of the Galaxy A5 (2018) it is seen placed below the module which should make it more convenient to use. The phone is also seen having a Bixby button which means Samsung maybe looking to bring its virtual assistant to more phones in the days to come.
Previously, an HTML5 test listing seemingly confirmed that the Galaxy A5/Galaxy A7 2018 will share the Galaxy S8’s Infinity display. According to the leaked listing, at least one of the two Galaxy A 2018 phones, will have an unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio. This phone is said to be the Galaxy A5 (2018) but since Samsung is known to maintain uniformity, as far as design is concerned, in both its A5 and A7 phones, we can expect the feature to be part of the Galaxy A7 (2018) as well. The unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio is a major headline of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ (and Galaxy Note 8) which is harbinger of a taller (and narrower) screen in a smaller footprint design.
The Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy A7 2018 are clearly heading to become bezel-less phones although rest of their spec sheets still remains a mystery. But because Samsung launches its Galaxy A phones in the early part of the year we can expect the company to launch them soon enough.
The current-generation A5 and A7 2017 have been designed specifically to offer a flagship Galaxy S7-kind of experience at a not so flagship Galaxy S7-kind of pricing. The A5, in particular, looks ridiculously like the S7 owing to its 5.2-inch compact form factor. It shares its build materials, meaning, 3D glass — Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front — and metal on the sides as well.
The A5 2017 also borrows two of the biggest highlights of the S7. It is IP68 certified for one, which makes it dust and water-resistant and also it comes with Samsung’s characteristic Always-on display.
